What Are Lowrider Cars?

Lowrider cars have been part of American car culture that began in Los Angeles, California from the late 1940s to the 1950s. The name is gotten from its customized lowered body. These customized vehicles are often painted with intricate, colorful designs, rolling on wire-spoke wheels with whitewall tyres. The vehicle’s rims are generally smaller than the original wheels but sometimes fitted with huge rims often coated with silver or gold chromes. In recent years they have been made very popular by Hip-Hop artists who flaunt them in their music videos and performances.

They are also fitted with hydraulic or air bag systems that allow height adjustable suspension, where the vehicle is raised or lowered at the owner’s command. Given these specific characteristics, while a lowrider is always a lowered car, a lowered car is not always a lowrider. The term is used to describe a class of vehicle, not simply the height from ground to chassis. Lowrider car culture over the years have spread to many countries around the world and is becoming more famous than ever before, widely accepted by young people as a form of leisure sport.
